Tempera

Tempera is a term originally applied to any paint in which the pigment is dissolved in water and mixed (tempered) with an organic gum or glue. Also known as egg tempera, it is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments bound in a water-soluble emulsion, such as water and egg yolk, or an oil-in-water emulsion such as oil and a whole egg.
