Master or Old Master
In the arts, a master, old master or master teacher is a person whose dedication and contribution to his craft has catapulted him to become an established authority in his genre. As a revered mentor, his philosophy which makes up his “school of thought” is accepted as doctrine by his mentees, protegees and followers. In the old apprenticeship system, a master teacher was an accomplished artist of exemplary skill. His students or followers were called apprentices or disciples.
