Linseed Oil

Linseed oil is the medium most often used in oil painting. It is also known as flaxseed oil or flax oil, a colorless to yellowish oil obtained from the dried, ripened seeds of the flax plant (the plant from which linen—the material for canvas—is also made). The oil is obtained by pressing, sometimes followed by solvent extraction. The best quality linseed oil is superior to all other drying oils in resistance to embrittlement and resistance to yellowing.’
