Decorative Art

The term "decorative arts" refers to arts or crafts that are both ornamental, functional as well as beautiful. Furniture, metalwork, fashion, textile designs, glassware, ceramic art, woodwork and jewelry, are among the most important decorative arts. Decorative arts also include objects that are made for the interiors of buildings, and interior design, but not usually architecture.

While fine art refers to a work of art created purely for aesthetic or intellectual purposes, hence associated examples like drawing, music, photography, sculpture, poetry and paintings stimulate a conscious and emotional reaction and engaging the intellect, decorative arts are concerned with the decoration and design of objects that are primarily prized for their utility or usefulness rather than their aesthetic qualities.
